The NBA Draft is rapidly approaching, which brings about rumors and reports, many surrounding the Hawks and their No. 1 overall pick.
Most recently, the hottest topic is that Alex Sarr’s camp doesn’t want him in Atlanta, Jake Fischer said on an episode of the No Cap Room podcast. The NBA insider doubled down in written form.
“This situation is also considered the preferred outcome from Sarr’s camp, as it’s become well known that Sarr has so far declined to work out for Atlanta,” Fischer of Yahoo! Sports wrote.
This leads NBA personnel to believe that the Hawks, who are listening to potential trade offers for the No. 1 pick, will be choosing between two prospects they’ve worked out in Zaccharie Risacher and Donovan Clingan.
“Atlanta will listen at No. 1, but the Hawks appear intent on holding firm, sources said, while the front office finalizes which prospect to select at the top of a draft class that’s full of question marks,” Fischer continued. “At this point, most team personnel picking in the slots behind Atlanta believe the Hawks will ultimately choose between French wing Zaccharie Risacher and UConn center Donovan Clingan.”
Both players would immediately improve the Hawks defense, Risacher on the perimeter and Clingan in the interior. I am a firm believer that Atlanta shouldn’t want a prospect that doesn’t want them; however, if Alex Sarr is graded much higher than Risacher and Clingan, Landry Fields shouldn’t hesitate to draft him.
At this point though, it feels like the Hawks will be taking the 3-and-D French wing in Risacher, which is what most draft experts believe will happen.
