The Braves still have a decent chunk of money to spend this offseason, and it is clear that the team is looking to add another starter. According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, former Astros starter and current free agent Dallas Keuchel is high on their wish list.
The former Cy Young Award winner had kind of a mediocre season for his standards. But there is no denying his skill and experience would help the Braves take the next step. Perhaps working with his former catcher, Brian McCann, could make the Braves an appealing option in his free agency search.
Cafardo suggests that Keuchel is the third most appealing pitcher on the market behind Patrick Corbin and Nathan Eovaldi. There is no doubt in my mind that Keuchel would be a better option than Eovaldi. That is recency bias at its finest.
We will see what happens here, but remember that most of Alex Anthopolous’ moves have not had a rumor prior to them occurring. This report could mean nothing, but it should come as no surprise that the Braves are interested.
