This is a home run acquisition for Travis Schlenk, Landry Fields, and Tony Ressler. Murray is an All-Star, and the first Trae Young will play with in his career. He averaged 21.1 points, 9.2 assists, and 8.3 rebounds last season and is no slouch on the defensive end of the court. The former Washington Huskie is one of the best defensive guards in the game and is on an extremely team-friendly deal. Murray is due $32 million over the next two seasons, and you can bet the Hawks will look to extend him well before he tests free agency.
The Hawks somehow hung on to John Collins through all of this, but I’m still not sure if he’s in their future plans. The latest rumors suggested Collins was done with Atlanta, but this trade has the potential to change a lot of things.
