According to Mark Stein, the Hawks and Kings are attempting to pry Matisse Thybulle away from the 76ers, and that there’s a good chance the former Defensive Player of the Year candidate is moved before the deadline this week.
Sources say that Atlanta has joined Sacramento as a confirmed suitor for Philadelphia’s Matisse Thybulle. I don’t know that the Hawks will be the ultimate landing spot, but I’ve been advised that the prospect of Thybulle getting traded before Thursday’s buzzer is very real.
Thybulle’s calling card is his perimeter defense, which is something the Hawks have struggled with for years now. In that area, he would be a much-needed improvement, but he offers next to nothing else when he’s on the floor, which is why he has begun to fall out of favor in Philadelphia.
Thybulle is averaging just 2.7 points per game on 43.8% shooting from the floor and 32.8% from deep over 47 contests. Perhaps a change of scenery would do him wonders, and the Hawks do need to add some depth ahead of the trade deadline, but only if it costs some of the many second-round picks the team has at it’s disposal.
