Contrary to an earlier report from an NBA Insider with Bleacher Report, apparently the Hawks and John Collins are not as close to a reported $120 million extension as we once thought:

Regardless, John Collins is a Restricted Free Agent, so the Hawks can match any offer that he gets. I was discussing this earlier on Twitter; Collins has a market, and the demand in that market can force the Hawks into action. Personally, I don’t think Collins is a max player, but I think he’s very close, and you have to do what you can to keep him.
I’m not worried about the Hawks losing Collins just yet. The Hawks will still be able to match whatever offer he accepts, and I expect them to do so to keep him in Atlanta. Maybe it will be a blessing in disguise, and the Hawks can bring Collins back for less than they originally expected.
