Since the middle of this past season, there has been non-stop talking about the futures of Matt Ryan and Julio Jones. With a new regime taking over, their names have been mentioned in nearly every hypothetical trade piece on the internet. However, it doesn’t look like they are going anywhere — at least not this offseason. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Falcons haven’t had ANY trade talks surrounding Ryan or Jones.

As Pelissero mentions, this isn’t necessarily surprising. The Falcons will incur tremendous dead cap penalties if either of their stars is traded before June 1st, and new head coach Arthur Smith believes he can still get a lot out of both of them.
For now, it looks like the goal for the 2021 season will be to build around their two cornerstone pieces through the draft and free agency. Although I still wouldn’t totally count out the Falcons taking a quarterback with their fourth overall pick to groom behind Ryan.
