The Ravens recently placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Lamar Jackson, which gives the MVP quarterback a chance to negotiate with other teams, like the Falcons. Baltimore would then have a week to match the offer sheet and retain Jackson; if not, Atlanta or any other club would then send two first-round picks for Lamar Jackson’s services.
Once the news dropped, many speculated the Falcons would be frontrunners. After all, they’d been rumored to be interested, per Matt Lombardo. It turns out that couldn’t be further from the truth. Dianna Russini and other high-profile reporters have refuted Atlanta’s interest. Russini reports: “The Falcons will not be pursuing Lamar Jackson.”

This seems to be an annual thing for the Falcons to get in the middle of a national story. Last offseason, it was the heavily scrutinized pursuit of disgraced quarterback Deshaun Watson, which was never disputed. Now, some say the Falcons are interested in Lamar Jackson, but more credible sources say the club isn’t going to pursue him.
We only know one thing: this offseason is sure to be must-see TV for the Falcons. With ample salary cap space and an arsenal of draft capital, the club is in line to improve the roster dramatically. Desmond Ridder has received nothing but praise from the organization, and it looks more likely that he is under center in Week 1, according to these reports from Russini and others. However, Arthur Blank’s word is final. Get your popcorn ready.
