This Falcons’ roster is one of the worst groups in the league and one of the weakest in Atlanta’s recent history. There are more questions than answers across the depth chart, but the offseason isn’t over just yet.
The Falcons will continue to bolster the roster through the final waves of free agency and April’s draft. Terry Fontenot has remained adamant the approach will always be selecting the best player available in the draft while filling the leftover voids through free agency. A smart strategy indeed, especially considering how many holes the team has. However, reports have surfaced that the Falcons may prioritize some positions over others.
What might we see with Marcus Mariota at QB with the #falcons? My report on NFL NOW on @nflnetwork pic.twitter.com/RHIoPYPZPK

NFL Network’s Jesse Palmer talks a majority about Marcus Mariota but hidden in his highlight of the new Falcons quarterback is an insight into Atlanta’s draft plans –wide receivers.
The Falcons’ roster currently boasts a core of Olamide Zaccheaus, Frank Darby, Austin Trammell, Chad Hansen, and KhaDarel Hodge in what has to be the most mediocre group of receivers across the league. It is obvious the Falcons should target the position in the draft, but this would directly contradict Fontenot’s MO during draft time — BPA.
The first-time general manager has mentioned on multiple accounts the way teams make mistakes in the draft is by reaching for a position of need. And I couldn’t agree more.
Just because the Falcons have a glaring need at the position doesn’t mean they should draft Garrett Wilson, Treylon Burks, or any other wideout with their 8th overall pick unless he’s the highest-rated prospect left on the team’s big board. The Falcons are in no position to make a luxury pick. They should stick strictly to BPA, and if that nets multiple wide receivers, then so be it.
