Following a crushing postseason loss, a pivotal piece of the Braves’ coaching staff could be on the move.
The latest to interview for #Padres managerial job is Ron Washington, currently Atlanta's third-base coach, who is in SD today. So far Washington, Brad Ausmus, Rod Barajas & Jayce Tingler, Texas coach, have interviewed. Hearing no on Buck Showalter, Joe Girardi & Mike Scioscia

The Padres relieved Andy Green after three seasons with the team, and their GM AJ Preller is looking at a guy he has strong connections with from his Texas Rangers days. The Padres went big this offseason following a 2018 season in which they finished 70-92. Green’s inability to lead them to any improvement led to his termination, and he was replaced in the interim by Rod Barajas. Other notable names in the running include Brad Ausmus and Joe Maddon, but Washington has been itching for another managerial role since leaving the Rangers. The Padres were rightfully unimpressed with Barajas going 1-7 over the final 8 games.
Washington has a World Series Appearance to his name, and a 664-611 record is pretty decent for as long as he’s been doing it. He was crucial to the development of Atlanta’s infield, and the coaching he provided Dansby Swanson and Ozzie Albies was invaluable. Even though he’s been so crucial to the Braves’ success, coaches performing well and moving on is just part of the game. Whether he lands one of the many head coaching openings or not, Washington will always be remembered fondly in Braves Country.
