The MLB lockout has officially ended; the weekend should be filled with free agency news and rumors. The Braves are sure to make headlines with Freddie Freeman’s decision looming, but Atlanta’s brass could also add in several other areas. According to Jon Morosi, the Braves had detailed conversations with Justin Verlander before the lockout.

Freeman is the crown jewel of this free agent class for the Braves, but another high-level starter would put Atlanta’s rotation among the best in baseball. Charlie Morton recovering from a broken leg may have something to do with it, but even if he doesn’t miss any time, the Braves could use another starter.
There aren’t a ton of high level starters left on the open market, and I’m not sure the Braves would be interested in handing out the kind of money it would take to bring one in. However, keep an eye out for a trade. There are several fantastic starting pitchers that could be dealt before the start of the season, and I expect the Braves to be one of the many teams interested.
