It turns out the 49ers were interested in the fourth overall pick before they struck a blockbuster deal with the Dolphins.
49ers have been attempting to move into top five picks for several weeks now, per sources. They discussed trading up with Dolphins at 3, Falcons at 4, Bengals at 5 and ultimately decided to go as high as they could, per sources. There were no trade-up talks with the Jets at 2.

Earlier today, I talked about the possible impact the trade with the Dolphins could have, but it looks like the Falcons were at least discussing moving back in the draft. However, the 49ers likely didn’t want to take any chances. Carolina and Philly were reportedly attempting to move up to third as well, so I see why Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch paid the price they did. Hopefully, the same will happen with Atlanta’s fourth pick.
