Just like every fan base with every acquisition, Falcons fans are split on the free agent signing of Kirk Cousins.
On the one hand, the veteran was by far the best option on the open market if Atlanta’s chief priority was to compete in 2024. Cousins will provide immediate improvement at the position, and if he returns to the level of play he was at before the injury, it will be the most dramatic year-to-year turnaround in franchise history.
On the other hand, he’s 36 years old and is coming off a torn Achilles. Cousins isn’t the long-term answer, and the Falcons could find themselves in the market for a quarterback in a couple of years. The price point is also quite high, even if it is the going rate for a competent signal caller in today’s game.
There’s plenty to dissect, especially with Zac Robinson’s new offense in Atlanta along with the team’s trio of skill players in Kyle Pitts, Drake London, and Bijan Robinson.
Regardless of how you feel about the signing, it’s an exciting time in Atlanta because, for the first time in a long time, the Falcons have legitimate expectations entering 2024.
Chase and I dig into the biggest splash of free agency, expanding on our thoughts and feelings about Kirk Cousins, the Falcons, what the rest of the offseason holds, and what fans can expect in the upcoming season.
