This time last year, Falcons fans were losing their minds that Arthur Smith decided against Desmond Ridder getting any snaps in the preseason. That isn’t going to be the case with Michael Penix Jr. and Raheem Morris.
Morris confirmed that the rookie will see the field this Friday against the Dolphins.
“We haven’t really talked about playing time, but you’ll get a good look at Michael,” said Morris. “You won’t see nearly as much of Kirk, if any.”

Kirk Cousins getting snaps in the preseason isn’t a big deal. It’s in no way similar to the Falcons not feeling like Desmond Ridder needed reps last year. Cousins is an 11-year veteran, while Ridder started four games prior to last season.
Cousins is also coming off an Achilles injury. Delaying the first time he is hit in a live-game scenario should be the goal. On the other hand, Michael Penix Jr. should play every single snap that the first and second-team offensive lines are on the field against the Dolphins.
I am excited to see Penix in some live action with the Falcons, but expectations should be tempered for a few reasons. Firstly, he’ll likely be surrounded by backups. Secondly, Zac Robinson will certainly be calling a vanilla game.
Still, Michael Penix in any setting has the opportunity to showcase just how talented he is physically as the Falcons take on the Dolphins on Friday.
