Raheem Morris sure didn’t “breathe belief” into the Falcons against Broncos

NFL: OCT 27 Falcons at Buccaneers

The Falcons didn’t just lose to the Broncos; they were flat-out embarrassed, and a lot of the blame deserves to fall on Raheem Morris.

To be fair, injuries played a role in Atlanta’s disaster class. The Falcons were without three of their top four corners in Mike Hughes, Dee Alford, and Antonio Hamilton. They were also without two other starters, Troy Andersen and Charlie Woerner, among others.

The Falcons were shorthanded, and it compounded when the club lost Kevin King almost immediately. However, injuries aside, this was a pitiful effort, and Morris deserves all of that blame.

When the Falcons hired him, the consensus was that Morris was a defensive-minded head coach whose ability to connect and motivate players was his greatest attribute. Throughout training camp, we kept hearing that there was a shift in Flowery Branch, about how Raheem Morris would “breathe belief” into this club.

Well, I’ll tell you what, there wasn’t a damn ounce of that “belief” on Sunday against the Broncos. Morris is a defensive-minded head coach, but the Falcons’ defense might be in the running for the worst unit in the league. He’s this elite motivator, but the Falcons have fallen on their face a couple of times, in which they didn’t look motivated.

So, what exactly is Raheem Morris bringing to the table for the Falcons? This is the NFL. The saying ‘any given Sunday’ is a thing for a reason. The Falcons aren’t good enough to take any opponent lightly. The Falcons lacked preparation and motivation against the Broncos, and that squarely falls on Raheem Morris.

He’s got to take this one on the chin.
