Raheem Morris is shaking up Atlanta’s coaching staff. The Falcons have promoted quarterbacks coach T.J. Yates to pass game coordinator and D.J. Williams to quarterbacks coach, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter.
Yates has worked his way up the chain of command since entering the coaching ranks of the NFL, beginning in 2019 as an offensive assistant with the Texans before being promoted to assistant quarterbacks coach in 2020.
Since then, he’s been in Atlanta in various roles. The former quarterback was the Falcons passing game specialist under Arthur Smith in 2021 but moved to the wide receivers coach for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. It never made much sense, which is why Raheem Morris moved him back to quarterbacks coach this past season.
As far as Williams moving up the ladder, it’s clear the Falcons are preparing for the worst-case scenario of potentially losing Zac Robinson. In today’s NFL, the moment an offensive coordinator puts together a top unit, he becomes a head coach candidate. We have seen overnight stars time and time again.
Raheem Morris is expecting Robinson to make that jump and is preparing for life after Z Rob, which could be Yates or an external candidate.
