The Falcons coaching staff is coming together under Raheem Morris.

Over the weekend, we learned that the top offensive coordinator candidate of the hiring cycle would be joining Morris in Atlanta. Zac Robinson was heralded for his work in Los Angeles and certainly looks like he’s next in the long line of successful offensive minds from the Shanahan-McVay coaching tree.

Moreover, Morris retained several coaches from Arthur Smith’s staff, including Dwayne Ledford, who is one of the best offensive line coaches in the league as well as running backs coach Michael Pitre and special teams coordinator Marquice Williams.

And while T.J. Yates was also retained, the former quarterback will no longer be coaching wide receivers, as he was under Arthur Smith, he’ll be coaching quarterbacks under Raheem Morris, according to James Palmer.

The Falcons didn’t have a designated quarterbacks coach during Arthur Smith’s tenure. It never made much sense. Yates is a former quarterback and well regarded around the NFL but was coaching receivers? It seems like a no-brainer, but I guess it wasn’t to Arthur Smith, who tried out-smarting everyone and everything and ended up getting the axe because of it.

The Falcons already seem like they’re in a better place today than they were yesterday. Morris was always going to be able to put together an All-Star staff, and it looks like it’s already coming to fruition. There are still a few positions to fill, defensive coordinator being the most prominent vacancy. Though it’s not exactly a dream job considering Morris is likely to call the defensive plays.
