Raheem Morris eyes familiar face for Falcons staff

NFL: SEP 08 Bills at Rams

Though the Falcons and their fans are celebrating (or complaining for some) the hire of Raheem Morris, the 19th head coach of the franchise has his work cut out for him this offseason. It seems he’s hit the ground running, though.

ESPN’s Todd Archer reported on Friday that the Falcons, along with the Rams and Packers, have expressed interest in hiring Cowboys defensive line coach Aden Durde.

As Archer points out, Durde is a familiar face and should ring a bell for Falcons fans. He worked with Dan Quinn and Raheem Morris in Atlanta and could be in line to potentially join Morrs’ staff.

The Falcons, Packers, and Rams have openings for defensive coordinators, and the Cowboys could soon join them. Quinn is garnering interest from the Seahawks and Commanders for their respective head coaching vacancies, so Dallas could just promote from within.

Quinn could also take Durde with him wherever he goes to be his defensive coordinator. Atlanta is obviously trying to fill Raheem Morris’ staff; Green Bay just fired Joe Barry, and Los Angeles is trying to replace Morris.

I am assuming that all of the interest is for the coordinator openings, but I could be wrong. Durde or no Durde, I expect Raheem Morris to call defensive plays, which makes the defensive coordinator hire much less important than the one on the other side of the ball.

Right now, Zac Robinson, the Rams passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach, seems like a prime candidate. He spent time with Morris in Los Angeles, but the Falcons won’t be alone. Robinson is the hottest offensive coordinator candidate in the league right now.
