Ahead of his press conference tomorrow, Raheem Morris is continuing to fill out his Falcons coaching staff.
On Saturday, the team announced several more hirings, including offensive assistants Nick Jones and K.J. Black, defensive assistants Lance Schulters and John Timu, secondary coach Justin Hood, senior offensive assistant Ken Zampese, and pass game specialist/ game management Tim Berbenich.
Three of them come from the Rams as Morris continues to lean on his relationships from Los Angeles for his staff in Atlanta. Berbenich, Jones and Black along with Zac Robinson have followed Morris from his former team to the Falcons.
One of the more intriguing roles is Berbenich, who has over two decades of experience as an NFL assistant coach. According to The Athletic, he assisted Sean McVay in situational management and is expected to have a similar role in Atlanta while also taking on the role of pass game specialist in his new gig.
Jones actually spent time with the Falcons in 2020 working with the offensive line via the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship, so Chris Lindstrom, Jake Matthews and Kaleb McGary are familiar with Atlanta’s new assistant offensive line coach. Black worked with the quarterbacks in Los Angeles next to former Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Robinson.
Schulters spent time with Raheem Morris at Hofstra during their playing days but also spent the 2022 campaign as a defensive assistant with the Rams, working closely with the Falcons’ new head coach.
The Rams aren’t the only team in Los Angeles supplying coaches for Morris’ staff. Timu, defensive line coach Jay Rodgers, tight ends coach Kevin Koger and pass game specialist Chandler Whitmer were all poached from the Chargers.
The Falcons will introduce Raheem Morris tomorrow, where we will get a better idea of who Atlanta’s new head coach is and his intentions this offseason.
