Raheem Morris’ absurd comments about Kirk Cousins following fourth straight loss

Raheem Morris Falcons

Arthur Smith’s smug attitude quickly turned the Falcons’ fan base against him, but is it crazy to say I might actually miss that?

Raheem Morris’ first nine games as the Falcons head coach could not have gone better. Atlanta sat at 6-3, in firm control of the NFC South, and looked well on their way to ending a six-year playoff drought.

The last four weeks, however, have Falcons fans wondering if Raheem Morris is in way over his head. The defense, which is his specialty, has taken a massive step back. Special teams has also been an issue. But more than anything, it feels as if there is no accountability inside the building at Flowery Branch, a damning indictment on the head coach.

On far too many occasions, the Falcons have come into games seemingly lifeless. Untimely penalties have also been a glaring issue in recent weeks, while some players just look like their going through the motions (cough, cough: Kyle Pitts) without any repercussions.

In all aspects, the Falcons have looked like a poorly coach football team through 13 games, and these kind of comments from Raheem Morris regarding Kirk Cousins’ performance against the Vikings are only going to turn Falcons fans against him even more.

Kirk Cousins isn’t just amid the worst four-game stretch of his career; this is one of the worst four-game stretches for any quarterback in NFL history. Following Sunday’s loss, Cousins became the first quarterback since Brett Favre in 2005 to throw eight interceptions without a touchdown pass over four games. He’s been the primary reason why the Falcons haven’t won a game in over a month, and the head coach is saying stuff like this?

It’s simply not appropriate, given the circumstances. Kirk Cousins might have been better on Sunday than he has been in recent weeks, but he still threw two interceptions, one of which was an absolutely abysmal decision that completely killed the Falcons momentum, a familiar trend in recent weeks. He might be a 13-year-veteran and a leader in the locker room, but he hasn’t been playing like that over the Falcons four-game losing streak. If anything, Cousins should held to a higher standard than the rest. It sets a bad precedent and is just another sign that Raheem Morris might be way out of his depth for this job.
