Our own Alex Lord recently broke down FanGraphs’ projections for each Braves player. But while I love FanGraphs, I like to think I’m better than the analytics, so of course, I’m coming up with my own stat predictions for each player. This is the second piece of a 26-part series that I will do leading up to the season, moving on to Ozzie Albies. If you missed the first part of this series, follow the link below.
Ozzie Albies 2023 Stat Predictions
Albies had a forgetful 2022 season. He missed most of the campaign with two separate injuries, and when he was healthy, he wasn’t quite the same guy Braves Country has come to adore, recording a career-low .703 OPS. Because of that, FanGraphs is down on what he’ll provide the Braves in 2023. They have him projected to accrue 3.2 WAR, which would be the lowest of his career over an entire season.
3.2 WAR is still more than competent, but I think Albies has proven that he’s one of the best second basemen in the game when healthy. He’s been incredibly consistent over his entire career offensively, always recording around an .800 OPS. Albies does struggle with strikeouts and is a free swinger, but he makes up for that with his power and speed. His defense at second base is also second to none.
The injuries Albies suffered shouldn’t hamper him after a full offseason. I see no reason why he won’t record similar numbers over a full slate of games in 2023. He’ll likely be up there with the league leaders in hits while smacking around 25 homers. That is who Albies is, and that’s what I’m expecting again this upcoming season.
2023 Stat Predictions: .272/.314/.480, .794 OPS, 25 homers, 95 RBIs, 3.6 fWARÂ
