Joe Jiménez 2023 Stat Predictions
The Braves may have lost Kenley Jansen in free agency, but they picked up a pitcher of similar quality in Joe Jiménez. He was mostly dominant for the Tigers in 2022, striking out 12.2 batters per nine and recording a 2.00 FIP.
Jiménez is a lumbering right-handed reliever that throws his fastball in the high-90s and follows it up with a filthy wipeout slider. He’s had an up-and-down career, but is coming off his best season, and the Braves evidently don’t think it was a fluke. Alex Anthopoulos said after the trade for Jiménez that he was a guy they had their eye on for a while, and the Braves were willing to part ways with the top position player in their farm system for his services.
If the front office believes in Jiménez, that’s enough for me. It will be difficult to replicate his 2022 campaign, but he will be a reliable piece of Atlanta’s stout bullpen. I’m expecting Jiménez to follow up his career year with another really solid campaign this season.
Joe Jiménez 2023 Stat Predictions: 3-4, 3.44 ERA, 3.27 FIP, 12.0 K/9, 0.8 fWAR
