Potential impact players kept on Falcons practice squad

NFL: AUG 09 Preseason Falcons at Dolphins

After the Falcons cut the roster to the final 53 men on Tuesday, they announced 13 players have been signed to the practice squad.

It’s also recently been announced that the Falcons have signed former Georgia Bulldogs standout linebacker Monty Rice to the practice squad, leaving them with two open spots remaining on the 16-man practice squad. Of the group so far, here’s who could end up making an impact on Sundays at some point down the road.

Chris Blair

The Falcons have done a really good job strengthening the roster this offseason, but wide receiver and cornerback are still paper thin. I wouldn’t be surprised if Terry Fontenot looked to add to both areas before the start of the season, but there will still be opportunities for guys way down the depth chart to contribute if injuries arise. Among the receivers kept on the practice squad, Chris Blair had by far the best preseason. He very well could find himself catching passes from Kirk Cousins at some point this year.

Natrone Brooks

Nobody impressed more during the Falcons preseason than Natrone Brooks. He stands 5-foot-11, 176 pounds, but he certainly doesn’t play like it, willing to help in the run game and physical at the line of scrimmage. Given the state of the Falcons cornerback room, I thought there was a half-decent chance that he did enough to play his way onto the 53-man roster. He was that good in the preseason, but I’m very glad the Falcons were able to keep him around.

LaCale London

Unlike previous seasons, the depth across the Falcons defensive front isn’t a concern. They have a nice combination of proven veterans and young players oozing with potential. However, if injuries begin to pile up, it’s nice to have a guy like LaCale London waiting in the wings on the practice squad. He appeared in seven games for the Falcons last year, recording 13 tackles, including two tackles for loss.

Kevin King

King hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since 2021 after being a second-round pick by the Packers in 2017. I wasn’t expecting much when the Falcons signed him, but he had some moments in the preseason, and given the state of the cornerback room, there could be an opportunity for him down the road.
