Braves fans that were hoping for a fresh start with the second half of the season kicking off have been greeted with a rude awakening. Not only did the Braves drop their first series to the Cardinals, but the injury bug also claimed victim to two more of their star players.
Earlier today, the Braves placed Max Fried on the 15-day IL with nerve damage in his forearm.
Max Fried initially felt some minor discomfort prior to the All-Star Game.
He underwent an MRI on Friday. It was clean and revealed no structural issues.
He'll be shut down from throwing for a while and the #Braves are hopeful this won't be a long stint on the IL.

The hope is that this will be a quick IL stint for Fried, but he’ll miss at least a few times through the rotation. That’s not something the Braves can afford if they want to chase down the Phillies in the NL East. The pitching staff has been the one beacon of hope in Atlanta all season. The Braves arguably have the best staff in all of baseball, a unit capable of carrying the team to a World Series. However, that isn’t the case without Max Fried. They need him healthy for October if they want any chance of winning.
They also need more from their offense, and that took a hit as well during today’s series finale against the Cardinals. On a throw down to second base, Ozzie Albies injured his wrist and left the game.

As of now, we don’t know the severity of the injury, but it didn’t look great. Hopefully, X-Rays come back negative and perhaps Albies is able to avoid an IL stint altogether. We should know more soon, and will keep you updated here at SportsTalkATL.
