Onyeka Okongwu returned to action for the College Park Skyhawks last week and performed admirably, recording a double-double and helping the team to their first win. But unfortunately, he had to take a leave of absence after that to deal with a family issue.
First and foremost, we wish Okongwu and his family the best with whatever they are going through. This is a young man that’s already been through a lot in his life. But when he does return, expect it to be with the Hawks. Both Travis Schlenk and Nate McMillan talked about his situation yesterday and said the team would allow him as much time as he needs to recoup and that he will rejoin the Hawks once he’s ready to come back.
Lost in the embers of this morning's Travis Schlenk interview on 92.9 The Game is the news that Onyeka Okongwu will be cleared to play for the Hawks once he returns to the team from a family issue later this week.

Nate McMillan on Onyeka Okongwu:
"I don't have a timeline for Big O either. We're giving him as much time as he needs to be with family and when I hear a date that he will return, I'm assuming he will return to us and start working with us and hopefully be available soon."— Sarah K. Spencer (@sarah_k_spence) December 14, 2021
This is tremendous news for the Hawks, who have been in a funk as of late, especially defensively. Okongwu should have a considerable impact on that side of the floor, and fans should be excited to see him develop in his second year in the league.
