One player the Falcons would steal from the Steelers

NFL: JAN 06 Steelers at Ravens

The Falcons are set to host the Steelers in the clubs’ season opener. It’s a homecoming of sorts as Arthur Smith returns to Atlanta as his former team prepares for a new era under Raheem Morris.

The Falcons are expected to win the NFC South and end their postseason drought, which would also mean hosting the first-ever playoff game in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Suffice to say, Falcons fans are excited for Week 1 and 2024 as a whole.

What better way to kick it off than in a fairy world — What player would the Falcons steal from the Steelers? I can’t take credit for this idea, I saw Allison Koehler of Steelers Wire do it with the Falcons. What Steelers player would the Falcons steal?

Koehler chose Drake London, which isn’t exactly surprising. The Steelers have a loaded defense, but their offense leaves a bit to be desired. She really could’ve gone in any number of directions — an offensive lineman like Chris Lindstrom, Kyle Pitts to pair with Pat Freiermuth, or even Kirk Cousins would be an upgrade over Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.

As far as who the Falcons would steal, it also feels rather obvious. Two players on the Steelers roster are arguably the best at their respective positions — T.J. Watt and Minkah Fitzpatrick. And I think you can guess which direction most Falcons fans would go.

The safety trio of Justin Simmons, Jessie Bates III, and Fitzpatrick would give defensive coordinators nightmares and is enticing, but T.J. Watt might be the best player in the NFL at the most important position on the defensive side of the ball.

Pairing Watt and Mattew Judon, Grady Jarrett, and David Onyemata in the trenches would give Atlanta a top 10 defense on paper to go with a potential top 10 offense. It would also rectify a mistake during the 2017 NFL Draft when the Falcons passed on Watt in favor of Takk McKinley.
