One NFL GM believes Carson Beck leaving Georgia is a bad look for his draft stock

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: DEC 07 SEC Championship Game Georgia vs Texas

Carson Beck‘s last calendar year didn’t go as many expected. He was supposed to be in the running for the Heisman Trophy, helping lead the Georgia Bulldogs to another national title on his way to being one of the top five picks in the NFL Draft. Instead, the Bulldogs offense struggled, in some part due to Beck’s poor decision making before he went down with a season-ending UCL injury in the SEC Championship. All of that led to him deciding to stay in college for another year, but not at Georgia, inking a lucrative NIL deal with Miami that is reportedly worth around $4-5 million.

It’s an understandable decision for a 23-year-old kid; however, one NFL GM believes it’s a terrible look for Carson Beck  from the NFL’s perspective.

“(Carson) Beck, either by Kirby (Smart) letting him go, or choosing to go, either way is a big red flag. It certainly hurts him with us. He didn’t leave in order to win, play against better competition, or get better coaching. A bad look for him. That makes no sense and makes you wonder a lot about a lot,” an NFL GM said, via Brooks Austin of Sports Illustrated.

It’s not currently clear what exactly transpired between Carson Beck and Kirby Smart, but it does feel like the split was mutual. The Dawgs felt like it was time to move on under center and weren’t going to offer millions of dollars to keep Beck. However, while it might be a red flag to some NFL GMs, going to Miami could be the best thing to happen to the former Bulldogs quarterback.

Beck’s leadership and desire to be great is something teams at the next level will have to decipher themselves throughout the draft process, but his arm talent and overall ability are undeniable. He might be the best college quarterback in the country, and he’s going to a place where he will be able to light up defenses on a weekly basis, much like Cam Ward just did for the Hurricanes en route to a trip to New York for the Heisman Trophy presentation.

If that happens, there’s no world where Carson Beck ends up regretting his decision. He’ll have made $5+ million by hitting the transfer portal, and some team will surely take a chance on him in the top 10, if not first overall. Nearly every quarterback in the history of football comes with some level of concern, and Beck’s will be overlooked because of the sheer talent he possesses as long as he performs at Miami.
