The NFL Draft is days away, and rumors are flying off the shelves. The Falcons have been mentioned more than a handful of times. Albert Breer, Todd McShay, and Peter King all believe Bijan Robinson is a growing possibility and likely the favorite to be Atlanta’s first-round selection. However, there were other reports surrounding C.J. Stroud that do not specifically mention the club but does affect them.
Peter King’s final mock draft has the Ohio State quarterback as the third overall pick in a trade-up scenario that lands Stroud in Tennessee; however, he also mentioned that he could fall to the Falcons. “A month ago, C.J. Stroud was the odds-on favorite to be the first pick in the draft. Today, it’s no lock he goes in the top seven, which seems (and is) insane”
If C.J. Stroud falls to the Falcons, it would open an entirely different set of scenarios that weren’t initially believed to be possible.
Firstly, the signal caller was once considered a lock to be at least the second player off the board and an unrealistic option for the Falcons. Now, it seems the possibility is growing. Sure, the club has given Desmond Ridder their vote of confidence, but if Stroud is available, that might change things.
If, for some reason, the team sees Ridder as the future franchise quarterback, the Falcons would be in a prime position to trade back, auctioning off the 8th pick to the highest bidder.
I would be shocked if C.J. Stroud actually fell to the Falcons, but that narrative is gaining steam at an alarming rate. There aren’t many in this industry more plugged in than Peter King, so this isn’t some trivial rumor. His word carries weight.
