The NFL Trade deadline is today at 4 PM EST, and the Falcons are expected to be in the market for a pass rusher.
Azeez Ojulari and Za’Darius Smith are two popular names that have come up in rumors, but a new potential target has emerged. On an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, NFL insider Tom Pelissero brought up Bryce Huff’s name when talking about candidates to be potentially moved at today’s deadline.
“There’s certainly going to be interest in guys like Bryce Huff, who was one of the Eagles’ big free agent signings, played all of six snaps yesterday after apparently getting his hand banged up in warmups or something. That’s a name that I think is going to get some potential action.”
Sitting at 6-2, the Eagles aren’t the typical sellers, but Huff hasn’t given Philadelphia much at all this season. The $51 million pass rusher has only totaled eight total tackles, three quarterback hits, 1.5 sacks, and one tackle for loss in eight games.
Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio hasn’t been shy about criticizing Huff. His snap count reflects it too, consistently dropping over the last three games, limited to just six snaps last week against the Jaguars.
On the one hand, I’d be shocked if the Eagles were willing to give up on the 26-year-old pass rusher they signed to a three-year, $51.1 million contract in March. Huff was their first signing of the offseason as well.
On the other hand, he hasn’t played much at all, and perhaps Fangio isn’t going to play him. Maybe they feel the need to just cut their losses, but they would have to take on a lot of dead money to move him.
For the Falcons, they’d have to move some money around to fit Bryce Huff’s contract under the salary cap, but for a guy that logged 10 sacks and 10 tackles for loss last year, they’d have to at least consider spinning the wheels on a trade.
