Wednesday has already been a massive day for the Falcons. Taylor Heinicke has been named the starter for their Week 9 stint against the Vikings. It’s a virtual must-win contest against a team that will be without their starting quarterback in Kirk Cousins, and Smith has decided to roll with the veteran. Whether that continues into Week 10 remains to be seen.
Beyond the big news, Arthur Smith also provided a couple of updates on some injured Falcons. Unfortunately, LaCale London is heading to the IR, but the outlook appears to be much more encouraging for Drake London and DeMarcco Hellams, who could be back as early as Week 9.
Other injury news:
– The Falcons are placing LaCale London on IR, signing Travis Bell off the Chicago practice squad to active 53-man.
– Drake London, DeMarcco Hellams will be working through injuries this week. Feels like they "got a chance" but will see how the week goes.

LaCale London has turned into a nice little find for the Falcons, working his way into the defensive line rotation. Losing him — along with Grady Jarrett, who tore his ACL in Sunday’s loss to the Titans — is a massive blow to the defensive front, making the addition of Kentavius Street at the trade deadline that much more vital.
Drake London suffered a groin injury in the second half against the Titans and never returned. The good news is it looks like he avoided anything serious, but groin injuries are tricky, so don’t expect the Falcons to rush him back unless he’s 100%. Drake London is way too valuable to risk losing for an extended period.
