Falcons fans were expecting to see Russell Wilson quarterback Arthur Smith’s offense after Mike Tomlin named him the starter, but the Steelers may be forced to roll with Justin Fields.
Ian Rapoport is reporting that Wilson is dealing with some calf tightness and was limited in practice on Thursday.
Something to watch for Sunday: #Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told reporters that QB Russell Wilson reported some calf tightness and is going to get checked out by doctors. He was limited in practice.

The Steelers were already dealing with several injuries to starters, including their guard Isaac Seumalo, who was ruled out for Sunday’s contest. The Falcons are dealing with a couple of injuries of their own in Nate Landman and Kyle Pitts, both soft tissue issues.
If Russell Wilson isn’t able to go, Justin Fields will get the start in his hometown against the Falcons. Arthur Smith and Mike Tomlin chose Wilson as the starter for a reason, seemingly because he operates the offense better.
However, Fields is undoubtedly more dynamic. If I were the Steelers, I would probably start Fields and make the Falcons defense account for the quarterback as a legitimate running threat because of the hobbled offensive line and Smith’s desire to run the football to set up the passing game.
Ironically, Mike Tomlin told Raheem Morris through media channels to prepare for Justin Fields in a joking manner. Tomlin may indeed get his wish, as the Falcons might be forced to actually prepare for both quarterbacks.
Though both are mobile, Wilson is a much more effective thrower, so there would certainly be different game plans if Fields is the starter. We saw him torch the Falcons with his legs when he was with the Bears. Hopefully, it’s not a repeat of that forgetful day.
