Mike Florio asks Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. preposterous question

Michael Penix Falcons

The Falcons shocked the world when they drafted Michael Penix Jr. with the 8th overall pick about six weeks after giving Kirk Cousins $180 million in free agency.

It’s a process that isn’t new, pairing a young signal caller with a veteran to be groomed into a franchise quarterback. The Packers did it with Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, and then Rodgers and Jordan Love. The Chiefs famously did it with Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes.

However, there’s a distinct difference between what the Falcons did and what the Chiefs and Packers did. Kansas City was coming off a 12-4 season, and Green Bay was coming off a 10-6 record in 2004 and 13-3 record in 2019. The Falcons were coming off another 7-10 season and didn’t have their veteran under contract.

It was an incredibly flawed process, but a good result nonetheless because the Falcons have found their franchise quarterback in Michael Penix Jr. For the first time in years, the Falcons aren’t going into the offseason with questions about the most important position in football, but that won’t stop Mike Florio from asking anyways.

During Super Bowl media week, Florio, who is a known agent of chaos, tried to poke the bear, asking Penix if he’s worried the Falcons are going to draft a quarterback in April’s draft.

Of course, Penix handles it like a pro, and Florio is obviously kidding, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s incredibly inappropriate. Florio is just an instigator, and sometimes, I find his schtick funny, but this was just weird.
