Somehow, despite playing almost unwatchable baseball since the All-Star break, the Braves own the final spot in the National League Wild Card race, leading the Mets by just 0.5 games. It’s not the position most expected the Braves to be in at the beginning of the season coming off six straight NL East titles, but there are 15-20 other clubs that would love to be them. Everything is still in front of the Braves, and the return of Michael Harris could spark some life into this group.
The 23-year-old outfielder went down with a hamstring injury on June 14th. He was eventually transferred to the 60-day IL, which makes him eligible to return on Wednesday. Judging by the way his rehab assignment is going in Gwinnett, I imagine he will be in the lineup for the Braves in just a couple of days.
Michael Harris has ten hits in 23 at-bats for the Stripers. He’s getting on base at a .500 clip and launched his first home run since returning over the weekend.

There is always the concern of rust for a player who’s been on the shelf for multiple months, but Michael Harris has shown no signs of that during his rehab assignment. Hopefully, he can hit the ground running when he returns later this week. The Braves offense showed a glimpse of life over the weekend in Colorado, and a healthy Michael Harris would go a long way in making those kind of performances more commonplace, something that hasn’t been the case for months in Atlanta.
