This should come as a surprise to absolutely nobody, but the Braves have officially named Max Fried the Opening Day starter.

Considering his experience, a case could have been made for Charlie Morton, but it wouldn’t have been a very good one. Fried is the ace of this staff; he’s the stopper, and it’s his job to lead the rotation. Last season, the southpaw didn’t drop a single game, going 7-0 in 11 starts with a 2.25 ERA, which led to a top-five finish in Cy Young voting. He’s improved substantially with each passing season, and I don’t expect that to change in 2021.
