Max Fried is headed to his second All-Star Game

MLB: APR 23 Marlins at Braves

When the All-Star rosters were announced, the Braves didn’t have too much to complain about in terms of snubs, but there were a couple of pitchers that could have received the nod.

None more deserving than Max Fried, who, since his third start of the season, has been among the best pitchers in the league, boasting a 2.36 ERA over his last 16 starts. The Braves lefty has been the epitome of consistency over the last five seasons, but surprisingly, has only been to one All-Star Game, which came back in 2022. That’s not the case any longer, as Major League Baseball announced today that Max Fried will join his rotation mates Chris Sale and Reynaldo Lopez in Texas, replacing Ranger Suarez.

The top three pitchers in the Braves rotation are now All-Stars. It’s the first time Atlanta has sent three pitchers to the All-Star Game since 2011, and it’s the first time they’ve had three starters in the game since 1997.

On the season, Max Fried is 7-5 with a 3.08 ERA. He has tossed two complete games — the most in the league — including a complete game shutout. Over the last five years, his case is as solid as anyone’s to be called the best left-handed pitcher on the planet, and he’s going to be paid like it — whether it’s by the Braves or another club — this upcoming offseason as he tests free agency.
