For the first time since the Falcons traded him to the Colts, Matt Ryan is in the facility; the veteran showed up at Flowery Branch for Atlanta’s training camp.
Matt Ryan is here at #Falcons training camp today with his 2 sons. I’m told this is his 1st time back at Atlanta Falcons practice since been traded. He has maintained a strong relationship with HC Arthur Smith and OC Dave Ragone. Ryan expected to remain a pillar within franchise. pic.twitter.com/Z2YZMtDULR

Matty Ice will eventually be inducted into the Falcons Ring of Honor because he’s arguably the greatest player in franchise history and easily the best quarterback.
He spent 14 seasons in Atlanta and holds team records for passing yards, passing touchdowns, attempts, completions, passer rating, and wins after being selected third overall in the 2008 NFL Draft.
Ryan immediately stabilized an organization in turmoil following the Michael Vick and Bobby Petrino catastrophes. Not only did he win Rookie of the Year, but he also led the club back to the postseason.
When it was all said and done, Ryan led the Falcons to six playoff appearances and three NFC South titles, to go along with four Pro Bowl selections and an MVP award.
It’s no surprise he’s back around the team. He speaks very fondly of the organization, and just this week, Arthur Blank welcomed him back with open arms. The Falcons don’t retire players’ numbers, but Arthur Smith told the media earlier this week that no quarterback will wear Ryan’s #2.
Matt Ryan will be in a different role in 2023, assuming a position in the broadcast booth with CBS after appearing on the network’s pregame show last year. I wouldn’t be surprised if he knocks it out of the park, but I would be shocked if he doesn’t eventually return to the Falcons in some capacity.
