This is going to be one of the most eventful offseasons in recent memory for the Falcons.
The organization holds the 8th overall pick, could have as much as $50 million in cap space, is set to hire a new head coach, and will be in the market for a new quarterback.
As of right now, it seems the consensus among the media is that Bill Belichick is the leading candidate for the open job. There hasn’t been any substantial report other than rumored interest, but generally, where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
The interesting aspect of the Falcons potentially hiring Bill Belichick is the quarterback situation, which Matt Ryan illuminated, telling CBS analysts that if the former Patriots head coach comes to Atlanta he’d likely bring in a veteran quarterback.

It makes sense. Why would Bill Belichick come to a roster ready to win and try to develop a young quarterback? For Falcons fans, it’s their worst nightmares realized.
In a class filled with potential franchise quarterbacks (Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, etc.), the Falcons end up going the stopgap veteran route with Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, or Ryan Tannehill. That feels unlikely at this point in the offseason, but even a sliver of that possibility will keep Falcons fans up at night.
Hopefully, Arthur Blank simply hires the next Kyle Shanahan and finds the next franchise quarterback in the draft, so the Falcons can maximize his rookie contract while still maintaining a long-term vision.
If the club goes with Bill Belichick and a veteran, it’ll feel like a band-aid to a problem that needs intricate surgery.
