On the Falcons official depth chart leading up to week one of the season, “Kaleb McGary or Matt Gono” was listed as the starting right tackle for their matchup with the Vikings. From comments made by Dan Quinn, it looked like the team was leaning towards McGary with Gono as an option if McGary’s conditioning was not up to par following a heart procedure that kept him out three weeks.
Now, it looks like they may not have a choice. Matt Gono was limited in practice on Wednesday with a back injury and then was held out of practice completely today. He will be questionable entering Sunday, but this is just another sign that Kaleb McGary will serve as the starting right tackle against the Vikings.
Dan Quinn said earlier in the week that the team would be monitoring McGary’s conditioning to see if he’s ready for a full load of snaps. If McGary isn’t quite prepared for 100% of the action and Gono cannot play, expect Ty Sambrailo to step in at times and fill in as the swing tackle.
