Kirktober puts Falcons in the driver’s seat of the NFC South

Kirk Cousins benched

The Falcons sit in the driver’s seat of the NFC South thanks to their 31-26 victory over the Bucs on Sunday behind another gem of a performance from Kirk Cousins, who just turned in another marvelous Kirktober.

It’s spooky season, and Kirk Cousins is scaring defenses, especially Tampa Bay’s. The veteran signal caller completed 23 of 29 passes for 276 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions on Sunday.

In the first meeting earlier in the month, Cousins broke his personal best in passing yards en route to an overtime victory in front of Matt Ryan. According to ESPN Research, Cousins became the fourth player in NFL history with 750 passing yards and eight touchdowns against a single opponent in a season.

The Falcons went 3-1 in the month of October behind several excellent performances from Kirk Cousins, who finished this stretch with a completion percentage over 71%, nearly 1,250 passing yards and 10 touchdowns to only three interceptions, along with one NFC Player of the Week award.

Nobody should be surprised, either. Kirk Cousins has owned October over the course of his career. He averages nearly a 70% completion rate, 267 yards per game, and 81 touchdowns to only 36 interceptions in 46 games.

The Falcons have a lot to figure out on the defensive side of the ball, but the signing of Kirk Cousins has paid tremendous dividends for the organization. First and foremost, the club is winning games. Secondly, their three top 10 picks are finally beginning to realize their potential.

Kyle Pitts, Drake London, and Bijan Robinson are producing like top 10 players at their respective positions, and nobody should be surprised if each finishes in the top 5 from a production standpoint.

Kirktober may be over, but this offense isn’t slowing down by any means.
