Kirk Cousins will be on Season 2 of Netflix’s Quarterback

Matt Ryan on Kirk Cousins

Oh… this should be interesting. Netflix released their promo for Season 2 of the series Quarterback, and Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins will be the sole member to be featured in each of the first two seasons.

Last time, Cousins was a member of the Vikings, but the Falcons were also represented in the show by Marcus Mariota, who was eventually supplanted by Desmond Ridder. It was an interesting dynamic that Falcons fans got a closer glimpse at, but it pales in comparison to what happened in Atlanta this past season.

The drama between Kirk Cousins and the Falcons began just weeks after they handed him a four-year, $180 million contract when they decided to take Michael Penix Jr. with their 8th overall draft pick. Cousins was understandably displeased with Atlanta’s decision; however, everything seemed to be smooth sailing through the first nine weeks of the season. The Falcons sat firmly in control of the NFC South with a 6-3 record, headed towards their first postseason appearance since 2017.

Nobody could have predicted the implosion that would follow. The Falcons would lose their next four games, mostly because of Cousins’ dismal play under center, who failed to throw a touchdown pass while tossing eight interceptions. A couple of weeks later he was benched in favor of the rookie Michael Penix Jr.

Kirk Cousins remains on the Falcons roster, but nobody expects that to continue for too much longer. It’s highly unlikely he enters the season as the backup quarterback, which will end one of the most unprecedented quarterback controversies in NFL history. This is a story that was made for Hollywood, one that if I hadn’t seen with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have believed.

It will be must watch summer television for Falcons fans, as Season 2 of Quarterback is set to return in July.
