First, it was Justin Fields; now, it’s Kirk Cousins.
About a week ago, Fields was the prohibitive favorite to be the next quarterback in Atlanta, with some outlets giving him as low as -425 odds. However, at the NFL Combine, the narrative began to change, as multiple NFL insiders reported the Falcons prefer Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins over Justin Fields.
That narrative only continued to gain steam last night, as Mike Florio reported that Cousins is “seriously considering” moving his family to Atlanta.
“We can’t get into the specifics, for now. But we’re getting very credible indications that Cousins is seriously considering moving his family to Atlanta,” Florio writes. “Which would mean, obviously, that he’d be signing with the Falcons.
The Falcons have always been the top alternative to the Vikings for Cousins, who becomes an unrestricted free agent next Wednesday. And for good reason. His wife, Julie, grew up in nearby Alpharetta, Georgia. Her parents still live there.”
It’s a bit of an odd report on Florio’s part, but he joins a group of NFL insiders that believe there is more than just smoke surrounding Kirk Cousins and the Falcons, who are now -175 favorites to land the veteran, according to Draft Kings.

I’m not too concerned with what Vegas believes. Typically, they are right more often than not, but just last week, their odds said Justin Fields being the next quarterback of the Falcons is a foregone conclusion. All of the rumors are forcing these odds to shift on a daily basis. Tomorrow, Baker Mayfield could be the favorite to land in Atlanta.
