The Falcons shocked the entire world on Monday Night Football when Kirk Cousins drove 70 yards with no timeouts in about a minute to score the go-ahead touchdown, eventually leading to an upset win over the Eagles.
Atlanta came into the evening as near-touchdown underdogs, and everyone expected them to lose. After all, it was the Eagles homecoming of sorts, honoring Nick Foles and Jason Kelce in the home opener.
For much of the evening, everyone was right. Even though they went into the half within one point, the Falcons didn’t inspire much confidence. The offense looked productive running the football, but Kirk Cousins looked a lot like he did in Week 1.
The veteran looked weak, indecisive, and frankly… scared. It was discouraging to watch, leading many Falcons fans to feel as if Cousins had swindled the team, giving the comments Troy Aikman made before the game even more weight.
Aikman revealed that Cousins told him that he wasn’t 100% but feels 100% in the pocket. It felt as if Falcons fans’ worst fears were realized, but Kirk Cousins’ near-perfect drive to eventually win the game quashed all concerns.
To further ease the concerns of fans, Cousins clarified to Falcons media members what he really meant, that it had more to do with rust than anything.

If you watched Kirk Cousins for the eight quarters of the Falcons season, he’s looked like the 2023 version of himself for about one of those quarters. The rest was a rusty version that wasn’t much better than what the Falcons had the last two seasons.
Hopefully, that drive propels Cousins and Falcons through Sunday Night Football.
