Outside of Keanu Neal letting us know that he has trimmed close to 15 pounds this offseason in order to pick up some speed, he also commented on the Falcons two newest members of the secondary — A.J. Terrell and Darqueze Dennard.
Terrell was the Falcons first-round pick, and many considered it to be a reach for a need, but the early signs seem to be positive. Although, they usually are during training camp. We will see if that continues once the regular season begins. When asked about his initial thoughts on the rookie, Neal said Terrell has a “quiet confidence” about him, which he appreciates.

Furthermore, Neal also raved about Atlanta’s newest free agent signing, Darqueze Dennard, while hinting at where the former Bengal may be starting this season.
Keanu Neal lit up when asked about Darqueze Dennard. He mentioned how the vet has thrived at nickel so far. “That’s his element down there,” Neal said.

Dennard has had a ton of success in the slot over the past few seasons with the Bengals. Dan Quinn said last week that they haven’t decided whether to use him on the inside or the outside, but Neal’s statement suggests it will be an easy choice now that they’ve seen him in action.
The Falcons cornerback group was a significant question mark coming into this offseason and still is. However, if they can get quality play out of Terrell and Dennard, this defense could be much improved as long as they stay healthy.
