As if the last few days have not already been bad enough for Braves fans, following the Braves’ fourth straight loss, the dreadful news was confirmed that Jason Grilli did indeed rupture his Achilles. Grilli sustained the injury in the bottom of the 9th inning while attempting to run and cover first base. The news is heartbreaking to Braves fans, as Grilli was one of the few bright spots in the bullpen this season. Grilli was fifth in the MLB in saves with 24 and boasted a 2.94 ERA. It was recently rumored that the Braves would be open to shopping Grilli prior to the deadline, but that obviously will no longer happen. The Grilled Cheese very well might have pitched his last pitch in the MLB at age 38. I think I speak for all of Braves nation when I say, thank you and we wish you a speedy recovery. We hope to see you back on the field next season. The Braves may now look for further bullpen help at the deadline.
