Blank has always been heavily involved in the team, consistently meddling in the front office’s business. He made sure Jones received a lucrative contract with a ton of money guaranteed, which has negatively impacted the Falcons. And Blank might be up to something again.
The Falcons owner made an appearance on 92.9 The Game and talked about wanting Grady Jarrett back.
“Absolutely, we love Grady. He’s a great leader, great player. Grady makes the whole thing better,” Blank said on the Dukes and Bell show. “So, we’re working hard to try and make that happen.”
Obviously, you want a player of Jarrett’s caliber back. But at what cost? The Falcons aren’t anywhere close to competing for Super Bowls, and handing a soon-to-be 30-year-old $20+ million AAV doesn’t exactly match the team’s timeline.
It does seem Blank is having a moment of self reflection, though. He also stated to Dukes and Bell that he realizes the decisions that led them to the situation they find themselves in.
“But we’re also being thoughtful about it because you don’t want to put yourself back into the same situation that we just got out of [Matt Ryan’s massive cap hits]. But we love Grady,” Blank added.
Hopefully, the decision is Terry Fontenot’s and not Blank’s.
