Ian Anderson’s journey back from Tommy John surgery has really begun to ramp up, as he was activated from the IL and onto the Gwinnett Stripers roster, where he made his fifth rehab start last night. Over 3.2 innings, he surrendered four runs on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts on 70 pitches.
Ian Anderson's fifth rehab start and first above Single A was with Triple-A Gwinnett today: 3 2/3 innings, 6 hits (1 HR), 4 runs and 1 walk with 4 strikeouts in 70 pitches/42 strikes.
Three runs against him came in the first inning including a 2-run HR from Colson Montgomery.

Three of the runs were given up in the first inning, so it was nice to see Ian Anderson calm down and put together a somewhat respectable line. However, the numbers don’t really matter right now. It’s all about ramping up his workload and working on his stuff. Last night, Anderson’s fastball was sitting around 93. A tad bit slower than it was when he was at his best back in 2021, but nothing too significant.
At this point, we’ve reached a pivotal moment in Anderson’s progress. He’s now up to 70 pitches and will likely attempt to throw around 80-85 his next time out. After that, he should be cleared to return to Atlanta whenever they feel like they need him. That might not ever happen this season, but with Max Fried placed on the IL, perhaps an opportunity arises much sooner than originally anticipated.
