The Falcons stumbled in Week 10, a game Raheem Morris’ team let slip through their fingers, leaving nine points on the board as Younghoe Koo missed three field goals for the first time in his career.
The club out-gained their rivals in every notable metric. The Saints didn’t win the game; the Falcons lost it. Regardless, it’s time to turn the page on Week 10 and move forward to the Broncos this week, but sometimes, I just can’t let sleeping dogs lie.
This Falcons pass rush isn’t just bad; it’s historically bad. It’s going to cost the club their season at some point, and it’s only a matter of time. Want an illustration of just how putrid it’s been? It’s broken an NFL record in the Super Bowl era, being the only defense that has failed to get 10 sacks in the first 10 games of a season.
The Falcons failed to record a sack against the Saints. It marked the fourth game this season in which Atlanta has come away with zero sacks, which is unsurprisingly the most in the league. They’re the only club in the NFL without double-digit sacks. There are four teams that have at least doubled the number of sacks that the Falcons have. Two individual players have at least the same number of sacks as Atlanta too.
I’m sure if I dug deeper, I could find even more bothersome statistics about just how awful this Falcons pass rush is. Despite Terry Fontenot investing quite heavily into the defensive front, there have been no tangible dividends from those investments.
