With the calendar now having turned to February of 2025, Georgia Bulldogs running back Nate Frazier holds the second-best Heisman Trophy betting odds among running backs at +12000, according to FanDuel, trailing only Jeremiyah Love (+4000).
A Bright Spot in a Struggling Run Game
Frazier was a standout performer during his freshman season, despite Georgia’s offensive struggles on the ground. Over 13 games, he totaled 671 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 133 carries, averaging 5.0 yards per attempt. He also contributed in the passing game, recording 12 receptions for 85 yards.
The Bulldogs’ running game in 2024 was uncharacteristically weak, averaging just 4.1 yards per carry—their lowest mark since 2011. Even with those struggles, Frazier emerged as the team’s most reliable option health-wise and the most exciting option as well. He is now the clear RB1 heading into 2025.
A More Dynamic Offense in 2025
Georgia’s offense is expected to be more explosive this season, which should create more opportunities for Frazier. With either Gunner Stockton or Ryan Puglisi at quarterback, the Bulldogs will have a more mobile presence under center than they did with Carson Beck, keeping defenses honest. The addition and emergence of talented wide receivers will also force defenses to respect the passing game, preventing them from stacking the box against the run.
Although the offensive line is undergoing significant changes, fresh talent, and strategic adjustments should help minimize any early-season growing pains. With these improvements, Frazier could see a heavier workload than any Georgia running back in recent memory.
The Keys to a Heisman-Worthy Season
For Frazier to truly maximize his Heisman potential, a few key factors will come into play:
- Increased workload: With limited depth, health concerns, and a lack of experience behind him, Frazier is likely to shoulder a significant number of carries.
- Ball security: While he possesses explosiveness and physicality, fumbling was an issue at times last season. Improving in this area will be crucial.
- Game-changing plays: Frazier has the playmaking ability to be one of the most electrifying players in college football. If he takes the next step, he could legitimately enter the Heisman conversation as the season progresses.
As the focal point of Georgia’s backfield, Frazier’s performance will be pivotal in the Bulldogs’ pursuit of a third national championship in five seasons. If he delivers on his potential, he could become Georgia’s next great Heisman contender.
