The NBA is amidst a massive COVID-19 outbreak just before several marquee Christmas Day games. Four games have been postponed so far, but there could be more as the spread continues. The five highly-anticipated games on Christmas will likely be played as originally scheduled, but a few matchups will be without the superstars that make the games so exciting. Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant will be out against the Lakers, Giannis Antetokounmpo will be out against the Celtics. Now, another premier name in the NBA will be out Christmas Day as Adrian Wojnarowski reports Trae Young has entered the league’s COVID protocol.

Young’s status for the Christmas Day game vs. the Knicks is up in the air as players must test negative twice before returning. It really is a shame because both teams’ fans were eager to play one another, where Trae Young became the villain of New York in just one short series. However, more immediate games are already being affected that Young was in jeopardy of missing. The Hawks were set to play the Cavaliers on Sunday, but with Cleveland dealing with an outbreak, the NBA decided to postpone the Eastern Conference matchup.

Young is one of the league’s premier players, averaging 27.3 points and 9.3 assists per game — an All-Star caliber season. Though he might not be active for the game in Madison Square Garden, Atlanta will likely not play too many games without their best player.
