The Hawks are expected to be one of the most active teams in the NBA this summer.
Armed with the No. 1 pick in the draft and an All-Star point guard to trade, Atlanta will be mentioned in a lot of rumors and reports. One notion that isn’t popular with Hawks fans is completely rebuilding around the prospect they take next week and Jalen Johnson.
The only issue with that is the Hawks don’t own their first-round picks in 2025, 2026 (swap), and 2027, so a rebuild is out of the question unless they can get their picks back from the Spurs.
Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley believes a deal centered around Dejounte Murray could net that 2025 first-rounder and more.
The trade: Dejounte Murray to the San Antonio Spurs for Tre Jones, the No. 8 pick and a 2025 first-round pick (Atlanta’s own)
For the Spurs, this is an unbelievable return on their investment. They get Dejounte Murray on a sweetheart of a contract for what essentially shakes out to be Tre Jones and the 8th pick in a weak draft class.
The Hawks, on the other hand, look like fools, but this is where the club is at right now. The trade for Dejounte Murray is a sunk cost, and if they want to tear it all down, they have to own their picks.
