We’ve gotten some good information from Marc Stein about the Hawks leading up to the 2022 NBA draft. I expect the Hawks to make a move, and John Collins is a prime candidate to be traded. There are reportedly two teams in on Collins — you can read about that here. We also got some intel on a rejected trade for Pistons F Jerami Grant:
• Likelihood of John Collins trade has never been higher
• Clint Capela and Trae Young are close. Capela has been described as a “true Young favorite”
• Hawks previously bluffed at Grant for Bogi/No. 16

16 and Bogdanović is a ridiculous asking price for Grant, but the Hawks could do more with the 16th pick. Grant is a solid scorer and versatile defender, but he also is a free agent after this season and could be in line for a raise after earning $20.955 million in 2022.
With the Hawks potentially getting rid of the contracts of Bogdanović and Collins, they would have cap space to get a true star next to Trae Young if one becomes available. Grant could be nothing more than a rental, and unless other moves are made, it doesn’t seem the Hawks would become contenders for a championship overnight. I trust Travis Schlenk’s judgement, and I think the Hawks are going to make a big move ahead of Thursday’s draft.
